When a Special Delivery Requires a Special Trip: Boss n Queen x K'Dor

At the 7th International Hydrogen Aviation Conference this month, Olivia Sainsbury made the case that the next chapter of hydrogen aviation will not be written by the largest aircraft. It will be written by the ones that can actually fly today.

Every conversation about hydrogen aviation used to start with the same assumption, that the technology has to prove itself at the top of the market first, on wide body jets, before it can matter anywhere else. At the 7th International Hydrogen Aviation Conference, I argued the opposite is happening.

Regulatory and investor scrutiny on aviation emissions is intensifying across Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia and North America. What has changed recently is where the pressure lands. Buyers, from mining companies in Western Australia to corporate operators in Florida, are now asking about carbon accountability as part of procurement, not as a side conversation.

There are moments in business that remind you exactly why you do what you do. Our recent collaboration with K'Dor, Double Bay's celebrated jewellery house, was one of them.

Zena and Tarick, the founders behind K'Dor's exquisite collections, came to us with a delivery that demanded more than logistics could offer. A set of precious jewels, destined for their new owner, needed to arrive in a way that honoured their worth. Not in a courier bag. Not on a commercial flight. In the way that a piece of jewellery of that calibre deserves to travel.

That is where Boss n Queen came in.

The Brief

Some deliveries are transactions. Others are statements.

When K'Dor approached us, the brief was clear. The jewels were exceptional. The client was exceptional. The journey between the two needed to match.

We organised a Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet at Mascot Airport, one of the most sophisticated single-engine jets in the world, and worked with Zena and Tarick to create a delivery experience worthy of what they were carrying.

The Journey

Zena and Tarick arrived at Mascot in a Bentley, jewels in hand, ready to fly.

From the moment they stepped onto the tarmac, the experience was seamless. The Vision Jet, sleek and waiting, was the perfect complement to the cargo it was about to carry. Precious stones, a private jet, and a destination. No queues, no compromises, no ordinary moments.

The jewels arrived exactly as they should have. Safely, beautifully, and in a way the recipient will never forget.

Why This Collaboration Made Sense

K'Dor and Boss n Queen share a philosophy. Both businesses exist to serve clients who expect the extraordinary as standard. Both understand that the experience surrounding a purchase or a delivery is inseparable from the thing itself.

A piece of jewellery from K'Dor is not simply an object. It carries meaning, craftsmanship, and intention. The way it arrives should reflect all of that.

A Cirrus Vision Jet is not simply an aircraft. It is a statement about how you choose to move through the world, what you value, and the standards you hold yourself to.

When those two things come together, the result is something that neither could create alone.

What This Tells Us About Our Clients

The corporates and entrepreneurs we work with at Boss n Queen are not making decisions in isolation. They are building a life and a business where every element reflects their standards.

The aircraft they choose, the way they travel, the partners they align with, all of it contributes to a single coherent picture of who they are and what they stand for.

K'Dor understands their clients at that level. So do we.

That is why collaborations like this feel less like partnerships and more like a natural extension of what both businesses already believe.

About K'Dor

K'Dor is one of Double Bay's most treasured jewellery destinations, known for its exceptional craftsmanship, rare stones, and the deeply personal service Zena and Tarick bring to every client relationship. For those who understand that jewellery is never just decoration, K'Dor is where the conversation begins.

About Boss n Queen

Boss n Queen is Australia's premier aviation brokerage and global distributor of the Stellar Jet, the world's first hydrogen-powered VTOL business aircraft. We work with corporate professionals, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals who understand that how you travel is as important as where you are going.

If you are ready to explore what aviation ownership or access could look like for you, we would love to have that conversation.

There is a particular moment in aviation that never loses its significance.

It comes after the negotiations are complete, the logistics have been solved, the weather watched, the route planned, and the aircraft finally lifts into the sky with its new owner beside you.

That moment happened again recently in Brazil.

Watching Celso, owner of Vaier and one of Brazil's respected aircraft distribution leaders, flying alongside our ferry pilot in the aircraft we sourced and delivered for him was a reminder of what this industry is ultimately built on.

Not transactions. Trust.

At Boss n Queen, Olivia and I have always believed aviation remains one of the most relationship driven industries in the world. Aircraft may be bought through contracts and specifications, but long term partnerships are built through delivery, discretion and consistency over time.

That matters even more when operating internationally.

Over recent years, we have increasingly worked across borders sourcing, negotiating and delivering aircraft globally for clients who expect not only technical capability, but confidence throughout the entire process. The reality is that international aircraft transactions require far more than market access. They require judgement, responsiveness and the ability to navigate complexity without losing momentum.

Celso understood that from the outset.

As the head of Vaier, he brings deep experience and perspective to the aviation sector, with a strong understanding of both operational and commercial aviation markets across Brazil. Working together was aligned from the beginning clear communication, high standards and a shared appreciation for doing things properly.

What made this experience particularly meaningful, however, was not simply the successful delivery of the aircraft.

It was the relationship that came from it.

In reflecting on the process, Celso spoke generously about both Olivia and I, describing not only the work we delivered but the trust established throughout the journey. In an industry where reputation travels quickly and relationships matter deeply, that level of respect carries real weight.

And it is precisely why this next chapter is so exciting.

We are proud to share that Celso will now work alongside us as a distributor for Stellar Aircraft in South America.

For us, this is more than a strategic expansion into South America. It represents something far more important: alignment with experienced aviation leaders who understand where the future of flight is heading.

Brazil is a compelling aviation market, geographically expansive, economically significant and heavily reliant on regional and business aviation connectivity. It is also a market increasingly engaged in broader conversations around energy transition, infrastructure and next-generation transport solutions.

That makes it a natural fit for the evolution now underway in aviation.

As co-founders of Stellar Aircraft, Olivia and I have spent years focused on what comes next: long range hydrogen electric aviation supported by solid state hydrogen storage and a fundamentally different approach to aircraft capability, accessibility and sustainability.

With our demonstrator aircraft approaching flight, those conversations are rapidly shifting from future vision to operational reality.

Importantly, the future of aviation will not be built by isolated companies working independently. It will be shaped through trusted international partnerships, operators, distributors, infrastructure leaders and innovators aligned around a common direction.

That is why partnerships like this matter.

What began with one aircraft delivery in Brazil now becomes part of a much larger journey.

And in many ways, we are only just getting started.

"Aircraft transactions may begin with capability, but enduring aviation partnerships are built on trust."

A new era of aviation is emerging—where design, technology, and partnership converge to create aircraft tailored precisely to how clients live, travel, and operate.

In collaboration with BMW Designworks, Stellar Jet is redefining what’s possible in aviation design.

In premium aviation, a clear shift is underway. What was once a category defined by fixed cabin layouts and incremental upgrades is rapidly evolving into something far more sophisticated—highly tailored environments designed around how clients travel, operate, and experience time.

This transformation is being shaped by leading collaborations across the industry. Lufthansa Technik, together with BMW Designworks, has introduced a modular approach to cabin design that prioritizes adaptability, personalization, and integrated technology. Their concept, “The BOW,” reimagines the aircraft interior as a dynamic platform—capable of shifting between private suites, collaborative spaces, and social environments depending on the mission.

At its core, this represents a fundamental change. The aircraft is no longer a fixed configuration—it becomes a flexible, purpose-built environment.

This shift is being driven by a broader change in client expectations. Today’s aircraft owners and operators are not simply purchasing capability; they are investing in environments that reflect how they lead, travel, and operate across multiple contexts. Executive mobility, remote access, team transport, and lifestyle integration are no longer separate considerations—they are converging.

Design is now central to that convergence.

At Boss n Queen, we are seeing this evolution firsthand through our work with Stellar Jet. As co-founders and global distributors, our approach has been to consider the aircraft not only in terms of propulsion and performance, but as a platform for next-generation user experience.

Our collaboration with BMW Designworks on the Stellar Jet interior reflects this philosophy. It brings together aviation engineering, advanced materials, and human-centered design to create environments that are both highly functional and deeply personalized.

Importantly, this is not simply about aesthetics. It extends to how space is configured, how technology is embedded, and how the aircraft supports its passengers across different mission profiles—from executive travel through to remote and regional operations.

The convergence of modular design, advanced propulsion, and evolving client expectations is redefining what an aircraft represents.

The introduction of concepts like “The BOW” signals that this shift is no longer theoretical. It is already influencing how aircraft are being designed, configured, and delivered.

For clients operating at the leading edge, this represents more than a design evolution—it is a strategic opportunity.

The next generation of aircraft will not be defined solely by range or performance, but by how effectively they support the way you operate—whether that is executive mobility, remote access, or seamless integration into a broader lifestyle and business ecosystem.

At Boss n Queen, we work closely with our clients to translate this shift into something tangible: an aircraft that is not only selected, but intentionally shaped around their specific requirements.

Because the future of aviation is no longer about adapting to the aircraft.

It is about the aircraft adapting to you.

Olivia Sainsbury, Chief Executive Officer, Boss n Queen | Global Sales Distributor, Stellar Jet

Australia has made a clear strategic call: hydrogen will be a pillar of its future energy system.

The National Hydrogen Strategy positions Australia to become a global hydrogen leader by 2030, with domestic production scaling throughout this decade. That is no longer theoretical. Hydrogen is already available today at pilot and early commercial scale across multiple regions.

For aviation, however, the question is not whether hydrogen arrives — but whether aircraft can operate during the rollout, rather than waiting for fully built-out infrastructure.

Many hydrogen aviation concepts assume a future where airports are equipped with dedicated refuelling systems. That assumption risks delaying deployment by years and misaligns with the government’s sequencing of hydrogen development.

Stellar Jet was designed around a different premise: aviation must align with policy reality, not idealised infrastructure timelines.

Rather than relying on airport-based hydrogen refuelling, Stellar Jet operates exclusively using a proprietary solid-state hydrogen energy system. Hydrogen is stored in solid form, at very low operating pressures, and can be fuelled off-site, transported using standard logistics, and installed directly into the aircraft.

This decouples aircraft operations from fixed infrastructure and allows hydrogen-powered aviation to begin now, not at some future point when every airport has caught up.

That matters because Australia’s hydrogen strategy rightly prioritises production scale-up first, with distribution and point-of-use infrastructure expanding progressively. Aviation that depends on fixed refuelling is out of step with that approach.

Solid-state hydrogen changes the equation.

Because hydrogen does not need to be produced at the point of flight, aircraft can operate wherever hydrogen is produced — near renewable generation, industrial hubs or regional centres — and have that hydrogen safely transported to them.

This is particularly relevant in regions such as Gippsland, where offshore wind, renewable energy, hydrogen production and industrial transition are converging. Gippsland is emerging as a nationally significant energy precinct, yet — like many regional areas — it cannot wait for aviation infrastructure to be comprehensively rebuilt before participating in the hydrogen economy.

Aircraft that can operate without fixed refuelling infrastructure allow regions like Gippsland to engage immediately, supporting regional connectivity, industrial access, workforce mobility and emergency services while hydrogen supply chains mature.

Stellar Jet also reflects the operational diversity of Australia’s aviation market. It is a dual-mode aircraft, capable of vertical take-off and landing from remote, industrial or government sites, while also operating as a conventional jet from existing airports. Both modes are powered by the same solid-state hydrogen system.

Crucially, the aircraft does not require redesign as hydrogen standards evolve. It can operate using hydrogen available today, scale alongside increasing production, and ultimately align with certified green hydrogen as supply chains mature.

Hydrogen aviation will not succeed by waiting for perfect conditions.

It will succeed by flying during the transition.

Australia is scaling hydrogen this decade. Regions like Gippsland will be central to that effort — and aircraft that can operate safely, flexibly and commercially within this reality will define the next era of aviation.

Stellar Aircraft Inc. has partnered with Marathon Group Australia and Siemens to develop zero-emission airports, beginning with West Sale Airport in Victoria.

It has just been announced that STELLAR JET INC., an innovator in aviation, has signed a partnership deal with Marathon Group Australia (alongside Siemens), a leader in hydrogen and renewable energy, to help start developing zero-emission airports across the country, starting first at West Sale Airport in Victoria.

This pioneering alliance aims to revolutionize the industry by developing and integrating cutting-edge hydrogen technologies, positioning Australia at the forefront of sustainable aviation.

To help us break down this deal and changes for the future, we exclusively spoke to Alexey Popov, the CEO of Stellar Jet Inc., and Brett Singh, the CEO of Marathon Group Australia, to find out more.

‍

‍

1. To start off, you need to tell us how did the partnership with Marathon Group and its technology partner Siemens come to be?

Alexey Popov: Our partnership with Marathon Group Australia, which collaborates with Siemens as their technology partner, emerged from a shared vision to revolutionize aviation and airport infrastructure for a more environmentally friendly future. After discovering the potential of our Stellar Jet, Marathon Group reached out to our Communications team. They expressed interest in using our aircraft for Australia’s largest offshore wind turbine project, which will provide electricity to Victoria as coal mines close by 2035. Initial discussions quickly led to a series of meetings, and within two weeks, the partnership was solidified. We are now working together to set new standards for zero-emission travel.

Brett Singh: From the outset, it was evident that Stellar Jet's technology was a perfect fit for our projects, especially with Australia’s largest offshore wind turbine initiative. I was impressed by how well their hydrogen-powered aircraft complemented our vision for sustainable infrastructure. After reaching out to their team, and with Siemens’ valuable input, it became clear that this partnership offered significant mutual benefits. The jets’ stability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness make them ideal for large-scale projects like offshore wind farms. Our collaboration extends beyond transport, encompassing hydrogen storage, refueling technologies, and the development of sustainable aviation infrastructure.

2. Out of all the countries, why has Stellar Aircraft Inc. targeted Australia as a prime destination to create change within sustainable aviation?

Alexey Popov: Australia is uniquely positioned for sustainable aviation due to its abundant renewable energy resources, vast geographical area, and strong governmental support for sustainability. The country’s significant solar and wind resources facilitate the production of green hydrogen, which is central to our zero-emission vision. Partnering with Marathon Group allows us to integrate hydrogen production with existing renewable projects, advancing Australia’s renewable energy goals. This collaboration not only supports Australia’s transition to a low-carbon economy but also sets a model for sustainable aviation that can be replicated globally.

3. Where in Australia are you targeting creating these zero-emission airports, or which airports currently to revamp?

Brett Singh: Our immediate focus is on West Sale Airport in Victoria, which is pivotal for the offshore wind turbine project. This site will serve as a model for our zero-emission vision, demonstrating the integration of hydrogen technologies. Additionally, we are targeting Bankstown Airport in Sydney, the busiest general aviation airport in Australia;  which has already approved hydrogen refueling capabilities. These airports will serve as early adopters of our zero-emission infrastructure, with the next steps involving coordination with local authorities, corporates, and government departments to build the necessary infrastructure.

‍

4. Will this cost passengers more or less for flights in the future at airports?

Alexey Popov: Hydrogen technologies not only advance our environmental goals but also offer economic advantages. Hydrogen is projected to be cheaper than traditional jet fuels now, and Stellar Jets operate at up to eight times lower costs than conventional light jets. This cost efficiency will enable us to offer more affordable regional travel options, making sustainable aviation a viable option for more passengers.

Brett Singh: The integration of hydrogen technology and the use of Stellar Jets are expected to reduce operational costs significantly. Hydrogen fuel is more cost-effective than traditional jet fuels, which we anticipate will lead to lower ticket prices. Our goal is to make sustainable air travel more accessible by providing cost-effective regional travel options, benefiting a broader community.

5. What other “sustainable infrastructures” will you be developing and putting into place?

Alexey Popov: Our partnership focuses on more than just airports. We are developing vertiports, enhancing hydrogen production, distribution networks, and integrating these infrastructures with renewable energy sources. Stellar Jet’s point-to-point flights provide flexibility, enabling us to meet diverse needs such as cargo transport, crew transport, business travel, and air ambulance services– all while upholding our commitment to sustainability.

Brett Singh: In addition to zero-emission airports, we are committed to creating a comprehensive ecosystem of sustainable infrastructure. This includes integrating renewable energy sources like solar and wind with hydrogen production, advancing hydrogen storage and refuelling capabilities, and developing green transportation solutions for airport connectivity. Our vision extends to creating sustainable buildings, implementing advanced waste management systems, and ensuring that every aspect of our operations contributes to a greener future.

6. When do you foresee your goals being completed by, and which government officials have been supporting your efforts (if you can say)?

Alexey Popov: We plan to deliver the first Stellar Jet in 2029, marking a significant milestone in our zero-emission aviation journey. Our efforts are supported by various levels of government, although specific names cannot be disclosed at this time. Their backing is crucial for overcoming the regulatory and logistical challenges of introducing new technologies and infrastructure.

Brett Singh: We are working closely with government bodies that support our vision of a zero-emission future. The Australian government’s commitment to sustainability has been a key driver of our initiatives, and we are grateful for the support we have received. By working together, we can ensure that our projects align with broader national goals and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for Australia and beyond.

7. What other countries are you looking at expanding into with your jets and airports? Is London on the list?

Alexey Popov: Our expansion plans are global. We have received orders from Australia and India, and are in advanced negotiations with customers in the United States and Europe. London is also on our list, particularly for routes like London to Monaco. Our point-to-point zero-emission Stellar Jets will offer a direct, private, and environmentally friendly travel experience, reducing travel time, operational expenses, and environmental impact.

Brett Singh: Expanding into new markets is a key part of our strategy. We are targeting regions with strong demand for sustainable aviation solutions. By providing a green alternative, we aim to set a new standard for global aviation. London, among other key locations, will benefit from our innovative approach.

Swiss startup Stellar Aviation has revealed more details about its planned pair of hydrogen-electric business aircraft. At the Move Expo in London late last week, the company made a joint presentation with BMW Group Designworks, with which it is partnered in developing two variants of the design that it aims to bring to market in 2029.

Building on plans first announced in January, Stellar Aircraft Inc. has now rebranded the aircraft as the CEO Jet and the Adventure Jet. It appears to be targeting corporate customers with the former model, and the leisure/charter market with the latter.

Stellar now says that both aircraft will have a range of 1,150 nm (2,130 km) and will operate at speeds of 280 knots. In January, it said that what it then referred to as the three-passenger Stellar Business Jet would be able to fly that far, but that the larger Stellar Millenium Jet would seat up to five passengers with a range of just 565 nm.

Both versions are expected to be able to fly at altitudes of up to 30,000 feet. According to Stellar, refueling the aircraft with gaseous hydrogen for its fuel cells will cost around $500, based on its assessment of market prices in 2028. The Adventure Jet is expected to be able to operate from locations that do not have a prepared runway.

According to Stellar and BMW, the cabin of the CEO Jet will feature “bespoke bathrooms,” champagne fridges, and pet accommodation for “discerning travelers.” They claimed the Adventure Jet will boast an “exploration-ready design.”

Stellar said its proprietary propulsion system will use hydrogen fuel cells to power 28 ducted fans, 20 of which are mounted to the aircraft’s main wing while eight are in the canard. The ducted fan concept is somewhat reminiscent of the battery-electric Lilium Jet eVTOL. However, Stellar has incorporated a V-shaped tail, whereas Lilium has mounted the wing at the rear of the fuselage.

“We’re bridging the gap for individuals who aspire to own a business jet with pride in a future that values eco-consciousness,” said Stellar CEO Alexey Popov. “Our customers will inspire admiration and respect, fostering a culture of positivity rather than judgment or criticism.”

According to Popov, engineering work on both aircraft began three years ago and, supported by Israeli aerospace engineering group ALD, Stellar aims to have the certification basis approved by the FAA in mid-2025. It is targeting the completion of type certification in 2028.

The company is now building a full-scale mockup of the CEO-Jet that it expects to exhibit at the MEBAA business aviation show in Dubai this November. A flyable prototype is expected to be built by the third quarter of 2025.

Stellar faces competition from French startup Beyond Aero, which is working on its own hydrogen-electric business aircraft. In May, the company confirmed the BYA-I aircraft is now expected to carry between six and eight passengers, with a range of 800 nm and a cruise speed of 310 knots.

Beyond Aero has already built and flown a subscale 85-kilowatt technology demonstrator. The Toulouse-based team is now working on a 1-MW-class propulsion system to drive a pair of ducted fans at the rear of the fuselage. Initially, these will run on gaseous hydrogen, but the company aims to switch to liquid hydrogen when this is viable.

This story was updated on June 28 to include further information provided by Stellar.

Our CEO Alexey Popov, JohnSchoenbeck the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships from BMW Group Designworks, and global distributors David Crawford and Olivia Sainsbury showcased our groundbreaking hydrogen-powered VTOL jets. These models offer unparalleled efficiency, safety, and comfort, thanks to our collaboration with Designworks, A BMW Group Company
‍At Stellar Aircraft Inc., we are bridging the gap for those who aspire to take pride in jet ownership within an eco-conscious world.

Our customers will champion positive recognition and respect for sustainable travel, fostering an environment of honor and admiration, free from any form of shaming or harassment.

Sydney-based aircraft sales team David Crawford and Olivia Sainsbury have scored a coup by being appointed global distributors for the revolutionary Swiss-built Stellar Jet convertiplane.

Through their company Boss N Queen, the former Cirrus executives have been charged with creating a world-wide distribution network ready for when the hydrogen-powered transporter enters service in 2029.

And with that comes the exciting news that the very first certified Stellar Jet will be delivered into the hands of a customer in Australia.

The Stellar Jet is a clean-sheet eVTOL design that uses a hydrogen-electric power train to drive 28 300 mm 1 kN electric engines. Performance projections show a cruise altitude of 25,000 feet at a speed of 280 knots, producing less than 60 db of noise.

Built in Switzerland in collaboration with BMW, the Stellar Jet comes from the inspiration of former Antonov executives Alexey Popov and Oleksandr Los, who state their mission as guiding the regional aviation industry into a sustainable future using hydrogen energy.

The result is an aircraft that is creating new envelopes in terms of construction, design, powertrain and capability.

"This is a traditional jet in performance, in terms of a light jet, so its range is 1,150 nm, flies at flight levels, but it also has vertical take-off and landing, and runs on hydrogen fuel," Crawford told Australian Flying this week. "The running cost is about eight times less than a traditional light jet. And it's zero-emission.

"So it's differentiated from both eVTOLs and traditional jet lights."

"And it's point-to-point, so it doesn't need an airport runway," Sainsbury added, "but it can land at an airport on a runway."

The capabilities of the Stellar Jet sound very much like those emanating from the urban mobility industry at the moment, but Crawford and Sainsbury are keen not to place their product in the eVTOL box.

"This is a convertiplane," Crawford stressed. "An eVTOL is vertical take-off and landing, point-to-point air taxi effectively, flying under 10,000 feet doing 30-60 minute hops.

"The Stellar is a transporter for long-haul regional travel; Brisbane to Melbourne direct in about three hours. It has the sort of performance you would expect from a traditional jet."

Two versions of the jet are being marketed at the moment: the CEO and the Adventure. The CEO model has a range of 1,150 nm (2,130 km) carrying three pax, whilst the Adventure will haul pilot plus five over a range of up to 1,150 nm. Stellar will also offer an optional extra fuel tank for the Adventure.

Whilst the CEO is about point-to-point personal transport, the Adventure is about taking you just about anywhere you like.

Boss N Queen see either version fitting in well with Australian customers, and are expecting half-a-dozen entries in the order book by the end of the year. Three are already confirmed, with the first certified production aircraft scheduled for our shores.

"We have four targets markets in Australia," Crawford explained. "The first one is the private owner who has multiple businesses in multiple locations; who has to get from, say, Brisbane to Armidale to Innisfail in one day.

"Currently they would take a private jet or travel commercially, whereas the Stellar jet can take them point-to-point. You could fly to a winery in Orange direct from Brisbane and not have to fly into Orange Airport and drive out to the winery.

"Secondly, the corporate market. Every company in the world now is trying to figure out how to reduce its footprint and move toward zero emissions. The Stellar is an alternative to flying executives in jets and will definitely reduce their company's carbon footprint.

"Obviously that's going to be very valuable for some of the largest companies in the world, so we're planning to market strategically to the larger corporations and government departments.

"Thirdly, the charter market. Air charter in Australia is a struggling industry. It costs someone $3-4000 to get a seat on a private jet. If you book a jet from Brisbane to Sydney it will cost you $20,000 regardless of the number of seats.

"A Stellar jet will move people around for about $100 per hour. In terms of economy, we will be able to increase the number of people that will have access to private travel.

"There is also the traditional market of pilots who are flying a Cessna or a Cirrus," Sainsbury chipped in with the fourth. "They will find the Stellar attractive as well."

Their coal-face experience at Cirrus has given them strong insight into the demands and trends of customer investing in new aircraft, and they understand the value of an aeroplane that will provide jet performance at the operating cost of an SR22. But with a sticker price of $US 4-6 million, surely the Australian market will baulk at signing order forms?

"There are plenty of customers out there happy to pay $3.5-4 million for a Cirrus Vision jet," Crawford believes, "but they were not happy with paying $1500 per hour to operate it!

"The ongoing operating costs are more of a stumbling block than the initial capital outlay. That's why the SR22 is so successful: even with the high cost of purchase, the operating cost is quite low.

"So there is money around to buy an asset, but there's not a lot around to operate the asset."

According to Olivia Sainsbury, the BMW connection is also proving an attraction for customers.

"We brought BMW on board and they have 100% confidence in the product," she said. "And I think we're going to see a shift in customers; people who ordinarily wouldn't have thought of buying their own plane and hiring a pilot.

"We want to make it accessible to more people, and it's BMW's job to make it attractive and ready for the customer. Just having BMW as a collaborator tells the world that this is something we have put a lot of thought into."

But when it comes to highly-efficient, futuristic designs, general aviation doesn't have a good track record in adopting them in large numbers. Ask Beechcraft about their Starship experience. So is the Stellar Jet too far ahead of its time? Crawford doesn't believe so.

"The market is very ready for this aircraft," he said  "If you look at sales figures from our competitors in the eVTOL market, they're all selling thousands of units. Hills Helicopter has 1300 units on order and haven't built a helicopter yet! Lilium has over 1000 on order and still doesn't have an aeroplane.

"The market is ready for hydrogen and the future; it's just a matter of delivering the product."

And on the subject of deliveries, Stellar Aviation already has a strong and growing order book from around the world, with Crawford and Sainsbury expanding on that almost every week.

A demonstrator is scheduled by the end of this year, with first flight targeted for 2026. That first delivery into Australia should happen in 2029.

By that time, Australia should have a plethora of vertiports in urban areas and a network of hydrogen refueling stations along the eastern seaboard to facilitate aircraft like the Stellar Jet as they revolutionise general aviation as we know it.
